IDEMIA is raising its Japanese profile with the opening of a new local head office in Tokyo. The office is located in the Ebisu district in south Shibuya, and will house all five of the company’s business units in addition to an experience center that will showcase various technologies.
That experience center will give public and private organizations the opportunity to sample IDEMIA’s latest biometric and mobile solutions, which include everything from contactless scanners and facial recognition to smart cards, SIM cards, and digital payment options. The office itself is outfitted with IDEMIA’s MorphoWave Compact touchless fingerprint reader. The MorphoWave enables secure access control and identity verification without the need for physical keys or ID badges, and it has started to gain traction in Japan in the past few months. The technology was tested during a soccer final at Level5 Stadium in Fukuoka, and has since been installed at the Digital Garage in Tokyo.
IDEMIA is planning to use the larger office space to hire more staff leading up to 2023. That, in turn, will allow the company to build on its success in Japan over the past five years.
“As the global leader in augmented identity, we will strive to upgrade our customer and supplier systems and capabilities to bring about safer, more secure and user-friendly communities for everyone,” said IDEMIA Japan Representative Director and Sales VP Nobuyoshi Nezu. “The larger space will give us the wherewithal to double our headcount and foster deeper collaboration and teamwork between staff, customers and suppliers.”
In November, IDEMIA delivered its Smart Connect eSIM management solution for the Japanese telecom KDDI. Before that, the company carried out a biometric payment card trial in collaboration with Fingerprint Cards and the Japanese credit card company JCB. Those cards would later pick up two prizes at the 2019 CEPI Awards.
