A major Japanese systems integrator and corporate solutions provider is leveraging technology from IDEMIA and Genetec to offer a new security system to clients.
Founded in 1965, Shoden engages in a number of business activities in service of its corporate clients, including the manufacturing of electrical and communications safety equipment, earthquake-resistant infrastructure solutions, and fiberoptic cabling, as well as the installation of electrical and air conditioning systems and offering consulting services pertaining to various safety and infrastructure concerns.
Now, the company has added to its portfolio a physical access control solution based on IDEMIA’s facial recognition technology and Genetec’s software.
The biometric tech in question comes in the form of VisionPass, a biometric terminal launched by IDEMIA in early 2020. The solution features 2D, 3D, and infrared cameras and a face recognition algorithm that can match 30 individuals per minute, enabling high-throughput. Soon after its launch, VisionPass took the top prize in the Biometrics category of the SIA New Product Showcase Awards. Earlier this year, Bosch Building Technologies added support for VisionPass to its Building Integration System.
In the new partnership, VisionPass is being integrated along with the Genetec Security Center access management system into Shoden’s secure infrastructure solution, with Genetec’s system delivering the interface for centralized identity and access management.
“Shoden’s mission is to enhance the business continuity of our prospects by maximising reliability and minimising operational downtime, particularly in the face of crisis,” explained Takuya Kato, the head of Shoden’s Data & Telecom Systems Engineering Division. “Contactless biometrics such as 3D facial recognition have immense potential to become the new access control standard, and IDEMIA’s established track record and expertise in the field made them an excellent partner as we provide robust security solutions that are relevant to the current times.”
Shoden already has plans to deploy the solution for one client, described in a statement as “a large Japanese utilities company.” At the same time, it’s showcasing the biometric security system at its Solution Lab in Tokyo, which could help to drive further market interest going forward.
