Another biometrics vendor is boasting about its solid performance in the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) latest Biometric Technology Rally. The Rally was carried out by the Department’s Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), and evaluated the capture and matching capabilities of many of the world’s leading facial recognition solutions.
IDEMIA was responsible for one of those solutions, delivering an algorithm that achieved a 99.5 percent True Identification Rate (TIR) for people without a mask. The company’s technology was also good at capturing the faces of people with masks, and successfully acquired them more than 95 percent of the time.
Both figures helped carry IDEMIA’s technology to top-three finishes in a number of different categories. The company earned particularly high marks for throughput, which is to say that IDEMIA’s system was able to process a large amount of faces in a short amount of time.
“The strong performance of IDEMIA’s biometric technology is a testament to IDEMIA’s 40+ years of leadership in the industry and our commitment to developing the best available solutions for public security, civil identity, border control and enterprise access control challenges,” said IDEMIA Transportation VP Lisa Sullivan. “The 2020 Rally was truly an exciting event as we worked alongside other industry leaders to help enable a seamless identification process, even while individuals are wearing masks.”
IDEMIA is not the only company that is currently celebrating a successful rally. NEC credited the more widespread adoption of masks in Asia for helping it reach the top spot in the masked category, while Corsight delivered the most accurate solution for unmasked faces. Innovatrics and Rank One Computing are some of the other companies that did well in multiple categories.
IDEMIA recently joined the Smart Physical Access Control Alliance. The company’s facial recognition technology has performed well in previous rounds of NIST testing.
