IDEMIA Public Security has achieved top rankings across multiple categories in the latest National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) benchmark tests. These evaluations serve as the global standard for assessing biometric algorithm performance from leading vendors worldwide.
In the NIST Proprietary Fingerprint Template (PFT) test, IDEMIA secured the top position across all test datasets, specifically in 1:1 fingerprint comparisons. The PFT evaluation measures the accuracy and efficiency of proprietary fingerprint matching algorithms used in law enforcement and border control applications. This achievement builds on the company’s previous success in MINEX III certification standards, which represent one of the industry’s most stringent benchmarks for fingerprint recognition technology.
The company also demonstrated leadership in facial recognition technology, ranking first for fairness in the NIST Facial Recognition Technology Evaluation (FRTE), previously known as the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT). This evaluation assesses facial recognition algorithm accuracy and fairness across different demographic groups. The FRTE represents NIST’s recently restructured approach to facial recognition testing, which has been split into two distinct evaluation tracks to better assess various aspects of the technology.
Additionally, IDEMIA ranked first in the NIST Age Evaluation Verification (AEV) test, which evaluates AI systems’ ability to estimate age from photographs—a capability relevant to age-restricted access control and fraud prevention systems. This development comes as the industry sees increasing focus on accurate age estimation technologies for various applications.
These results follow IDEMIA’s established track record in NIST evaluations, including strong performances in the NIST Minutiae Interoperability Exchange (MINEX III) test for fingerprint template generation and the NIST Evaluation of Latent Fingerprint Technologies (ELFT) tests. The company’s iris recognition technology also achieved the top ranking in the latest NIST Iris Exchange (IREX 10) benchmark.
Vincent Bouatou, Chief Technology Officer of IDEMIA Public Security, addressed the company’s technological approach: “In developing accurate and efficient technologies, we take the importance of keeping equity and fairness at the core of our products seriously as we pledge to create value for our customers and a meaningful impact on society, whether it’s enabling law enforcement to solve crimes more quickly or providing government customers the technology to combat identity fraud.” This statement comes following Bouatou’s recent appointment as CTO, marking a continued focus on technological innovation at the company.
