Idbio Places in NIST Iris and Fingerprint Rankings, Earns MOSIP Cert

US-based biometrics startup Idbio has placed among the ten most accurate iris recognition systems in NIST’s ongoing IREX 10 evaluation and posted competitive fingerprint results in PFT III, while simultaneously earning MOSIP certification for its Enterprise Automated Biometric Identification System. The results position the company as a contender for national-scale digital identity deployments, including programs built on the Modular Open Source Identity Platform used across the Global South.

In NIST’s IREX 10 identification track, Idbio recorded a False Non-Identification Rate of 0.0051 at a False Positive Identification Rate of 0.01, with a Rank-1 miss rate of 0.37 percent. The company’s iris algorithm completed one-to-many searches in 0.237 seconds using 1,035-byte compact templates, placing it among the fastest in the evaluation. NIST’s IREX 10 is an ongoing evaluation where established vendors including IDEMIA have competed for top positions.

In the PFT III fingerprint evaluation, Idbio’s algorithm matched at four microseconds per comparison using 522-byte templates, which the company describes as up to 28 times smaller than those of competing providers. The compact template sizes and fast matching speeds are engineered specifically for low-bandwidth environments and limited infrastructure, common in developing market deployments.

Idbio’s Enterprise ABIS and Manual Adjudication Client passed full MOSIP compliance testing, supporting multimodal deduplication across face, fingerprint, and iris at population scale. The company joins 14 other MOSIP-certified ABIS providers, including Neurotechnology, ROC, and Identy.io. Idbio’s system runs on-premise using Docker and Kubernetes, enabling sovereign data control.

The company also holds the top iris recognition ranking and second-place face recognition ranking on India’s UIDAI Biometric Challenge leaderboard. Its system targets national ID programs, border control, law enforcement databases, and fintech KYC applications.

Sundar Shanmuganathan, CEO of Idbio, said the results demonstrate that “governments no longer have to choose between accuracy and operational efficiency.”

The strong dual-benchmark debut echoes TECH5’s NIST debut in 2022, when that company also posted top results in its first IREX 10 and PFT III submissions. No prior NIST evaluation results for Idbio have been published.
