CBP Pilots Facial Recognition at Peace Bridge Vehicle Border Crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is piloting facial recognition technology for vehicle occupants at the Peace Bridge between Buffalo, NY, and Canada from November 2024 through March or April 2025. Images of unobstructed occupants will be processed through the Traveler Verification Service and matched against DHS records, with U.S. citizen images deleted within 12 hours. Privacy advocates, including the Electronic Frontier Foundation, have raised oversight concerns.

Thailand Expands Iris and Face Biometrics to Register Undocumented Migrant Workers for Health Services

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, Thai Red Cross Society, and NSTDA have deployed the Thai Red Cross Biometric Authentication System to register undocumented migrant workers for healthcare and humanitarian access. Using iris and facial recognition, the system has enrolled over 200,000 individuals with a reported 99.75 percent accuracy rate, as part of a national effort to reach more than one million undocumented workers. 4iDigital Expands to Mexico With Biometric Identity and Fraud Prevention Services

4iDigital has launched in Mexico, offering biometric validation and fraud prevention tools for fintech and financial institutions. Processing over 1.2 million transactions monthly for MercadoLibre, the company provides layered security through video verification, device reputation analysis, and biometric checks. Partnerships include IDEMIA and Mexico’s National Electoral Institute, supporting a planned self-sovereign identity platform for secure, user-controlled data sharing.

Lotte Duty Free Debuts Palm Vein Biometric Payments at Gimpo Airport

Lotte Duty Free has introduced South Korea’s first duty-free palm vein biometric payment service at its Gimpo Airport store. Customers register their palm vein patterns and link them to a payment method, enabling transactions without physical cards or passports. The technology offers enhanced spoof resistance and a contactless checkout, complementing Lotte Card’s separate facial recognition payment pilots under the country’s regulatory sandbox.

TCL Launches 3D Biometric Retrofit Lock and AI Solar Cameras at IFA 2025

At IFA 2025, TCL Home Security unveiled the D2R Max retrofit smart lock, combining 3D facial recognition, palm vein scanning, and fingerprint authentication without requiring lock replacement.
