Perth Airport and Amadeus Launch Australia’s First Biometric Departure Process

Perth Airport will introduce an end-to-end biometric departure journey with Amadeus, adding 95 self-service kiosks and nearly 40 automated bag-drop units. Once registered, passengers on participating airlines can be verified at bag drop, security, and boarding via facial recognition. Airport COO Scott Woodward says the goal is a smoother experience, and Amadeus points to related projects in Norway and Houston as precedents. The rollout is part of wider terminal upgrades and will operate on an opt-in basis for eligible travelers.

BigBear.ai Deploys Biometric Entry System at Nashville International Airport

BigBear.ai’s veriScan Enhanced Passenger Processing system is live at BNA’s international arrivals, verifying eligible U.S. citizens via facial recognition to reduce routine passport checks. The system auto-verifies low-risk travelers and routes exceptions to CBP officers, aiming to cut wait times during peak periods. The deployment joins similar BigBear.ai projects at other North American ports of entry and includes confirmed statements from BigBear.ai CEO Kevin McAleenan and MNAA CEO Doug Kreulen.

Senators Urge ICE to Halt Mobile Fortify Facial Recognition

U.S. Senators led by Ron Wyden, Jeff Merkley, and Ed Markey sent a letter asking ICE to stop using its Mobile Fortify facial recognition app, citing accuracy risks, privacy concerns, and disproportionate impacts on communities of color. The letter requests detailed information by October 2 on development, testing, legal authorities, policies, and safeguards. Lawmakers frame the app as part of a broader domestic surveillance ecosystem and link the issue to ongoing efforts to set federal limits on biometric surveillance.

Premier Sports Network Taps Alcatraz AI for Stadium Access Control

Premier Sports Network partnered with Alcatraz AI to integrate facial authentication into the PSN Venue Security and Operations Network for arenas and major events. Initial focus areas include locker rooms, training facilities, production zones, back-of-house corridors, and suites, pairing biometrics with existing credentials to speed controlled access. PSN’s Spencer Hidge and Alcatraz’s Tina D’Agostin highlight a privacy-first approach and plans for multi-site adoption driven by venue operators.

Brazil Extends Worldcoin Iris-Scanning Inquiry in São Paulo

Brazil’s CPI da Íris extended its investigation into Worldcoin’s São Paulo operations by 120 days to scrutinize biometric data collection, storage, consent, and security controls. The move follows international scrutiny, including a German order to delete unlawfully collected biometric data. Worldcoin, co-founded by Sam Altman, says it has surpassed 10 million verified users and uses Orb devices to create unique digital identifiers, with token rewards varying by jurisdiction.
