BigBear.ai Deploys Biometric Entry System at Nashville International Airport

BigBear.ai has introduced its veriScan biometric identity verification system at Nashville International Airport (BNA), marking the latest deployment of Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP) technology in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA). The installation is designed to streamline international arrivals by verifying the identities of eligible U.S. citizens through facial recognition, reducing the need to present physical passports.

Automated Entry for Eligible Travelers

The EPP system captures a live facial image of the traveler upon arrival and compares it with government records to confirm identity. For eligible U.S. citizens, this process enables entry without having to show a passport to CBP officers. The system either verifies travelers automatically or flags cases for additional screening, maintaining strict security oversight while reducing congestion at the arrivals facility.

“BigBear.ai’s advanced identity verification tools streamline passenger processing while giving officers real-time insights to make faster, more informed decisions. We are proud to partner with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and CBP to deliver AI-driven solutions that both strengthen security and transform the arrival experience for travelers,” said Kevin McAleenan, Chief Executive Officer of BigBear.ai.

According to BigBear.ai, the new system has already improved processing efficiency during peak arrival periods by shortening routine wait times and easing congestion. The company emphasizes that the system complements CBP officers by expediting routine verifications while still directing more complex cases to staff for review.

Part of a Broader Expansion

The Nashville deployment adds to BigBear.ai’s growing portfolio of biometric processing projects. The company has announced similar installations across 12 major ports of entry in the United States and Canada, underscoring the rapid adoption of AI-powered biometrics at airports and border facilities. Other airports are moving in a similar direction, with Los Angeles International Airport recently introducing a biometric entry option for U.S. citizens at international terminals.

Doug Kreulen, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, highlighted the benefits of the new system: “The integration of Enhanced Passenger Processing in collaboration with BigBear.ai demonstrates our dedication to deploying secure, cutting-edge solutions that enhance the arrival experience. The airport authority invested in this new technology to reduce CBP wait times, further strengthening our commitment to deliver a world-class travel experience.”

Nashville International Airport continues to expand its facilities to accommodate record levels of passenger traffic and to support the region’s economic growth. The addition of biometric entry technology reflects a broader trend at U.S. transportation hubs to combine enhanced security with improved passenger experience, using artificial intelligence to meet the demands of increasing international travel volumes.
