Experian acquires KYC360 to expand automated compliance capabilities
Experian has acquired RegTech firm KYC360 to strengthen its fraud and financial crime offering in the UK and Ireland. KYC360’s customer lifecycle management and automated onboarding, screening, and monitoring tools will be embedded into Experian’s Ascend platform next year, enabling banks to streamline KYC/KYB workflows within a unified compliance environment. The deal accelerates Experian’s shift from a data provider to an end-to-end risk and compliance platform as regulatory pressure and operational costs rise for financial institutions.
Brivas buys 3Fish IP to advance proof-of-human authentication
Brivas has acquired biometric gesture-recognition patents from 3Fish to support a new proof-of-human protocol. The technology generates unpredictable motion prompts and analyzes live video responses to counter deepfake-driven spoofing and synthetic identity attacks, complementing Brivas’ sensor-fusion authentication system. The acquisition highlights growing market demand for proof-of-personhood technologies across identity verification, anti-bot defenses, and emerging Web3 use cases.
XTec wins $177M GSA contract to modernize USAccess federal credentialing
The U.S. General Services Administration has awarded XTec a contract worth up to $177.2 million to modernize USAccess, the federal credentialing service currently run by Peraton. The project will transition the system from physical smart cards to a modular, API-based architecture supporting mobile and passwordless credentials and federation standards such as SAML and OpenID Connect. The award signals the government’s move toward digital identity infrastructure aligned with HSPD-12 modernization efforts.
WhatsApp introduces passkey-encrypted cloud backups
WhatsApp is rolling out end-to-end encrypted cloud backups secured by passkeys tied to device biometrics or PINs, replacing password-based backup protection. The update removes a major usability barrier to encrypted backup adoption by linking encryption to the phone unlock mechanism, ensuring the private key stays on-device and inaccessible to Meta or cloud providers. The rollout brings mainstream visibility to passkey-based recovery in consumer messaging.
OCR Studio launches IIRDoc-Net for efficient ID document recognition
OCR Studio has introduced IIRDoc-Net, a neural network architecture that recognizes identity documents using roughly one-third less compute than comparable models. The approach uses learnable infinite impulse response filters to expand the receptive field while maintaining efficiency, enabling fast, on-device document analysis across low-power devices. The model is already deployed in the firm’s ID-scan products across finance, healthcare, and fintech.
IDnow reports 50 percent reduction in facial recognition bias
IDnow says participation in the EU’s MAMMOth project enabled it to cut accuracy disparities across skin tones by more than half by using style-transfer techniques to diversify training data. The updated system has been in production since March 2025 and supports compliance preparation for the EU AI Act and eIDAS 2.0. IDnow plans to use the MAI-BIAS toolkit to evaluate fairness across future models.
Xiaomi unveils Smart Door Lock 4 Pro with multimodal biometrics
Xiaomi has released the Smart Door Lock 4 Pro Dual Camera Edition in China, offering facial, fingerprint, and palm-vein recognition alongside nine additional unlocking methods. Featuring dual cameras, remote access support, and a dual-power system, the device brings enterprise-grade biometrics like palm-vein scanning to the consumer smart-home market at a mass-market price point.
AMAG names Suprema as strategic biometric hardware partner
AMAG Technology has formalized Suprema as its strategic biometric hardware partner for its Symmetry access control platform. The partnership deepens technical integration across products and positions Suprema readers as the preferred biometric option for AMAG customers, aligning a best-of-breed hardware provider with an open platform security software vendor.
Smitten partners with Signicat to bring BankID identity checks to dating
Dating app Smitten will integrate Swedish BankID identity verification via Signicat, letting users prove their legal identity and age inside the app. The move shifts dating-app verification from liveness-checks toward bank-grade identity proofing, enabling users to interact only with verified profiles and aiming to reduce scams and impersonation.
California DOJ seeks comment on age-assurance standards under SB 976
The California Department of Justice will hold a public meeting on November 5 to inform rulemaking for SB 976, which restricts addictive features in social media platforms used by minors. The consultation will explore age-assurance methods, parental-consent processes, and operator obligations. The hearing comes amid differing state approaches to age signaling, including a recent law assigning responsibilities to app stores, making this a key venue for competing compliance frameworks.
