Welcome to ID Tech’s digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know about the world of digital identity and biometrics today:

Football Supporters’ Association Opposes Facial Recognition at Stadiums, Citing Privacy and Bias Risks
The Football Supporters’ Association has formally opposed the use of facial recognition at English football stadiums, citing privacy concerns, demographic bias risks, and lack of fan consultation. The stance follows its recent AGM and responds to increasing biometric surveillance at sporting events, including deployments by South Wales and Metropolitan Police. The FSA urges clubs and authorities to halt any rollout plans until proper legal, ethical, and privacy evaluations are conducted, highlighting the need to protect civil liberties and the matchday experience.
MSP Launches Facial Recognition for U.S. Citizens, Expanding Biometric Screening at U.S. Airports
Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport has implemented facial comparison technology for arriving U.S. citizens, becoming the 12th U.S. port of entry to adopt CBP’s Enhanced Passenger Processing system. The system uses auto-capture cameras to match travelers’ faces to existing government records, aiming to reduce wait times and speed customs processing. Travelers can opt out in favor of manual inspection. Photos of U.S. citizens are deleted within 12 hours, while privacy and oversight policies remain under scrutiny amid broader adoption of biometric screening at U.S. borders.
ICE Pilots Mobile Fortify App, Expanding Facial Recognition Surveillance into U.S. Communities
ICE is piloting Mobile Fortify, a smartphone-based app that enables agents to collect facial images and contactless fingerprints in the field for real-time identity checks against DHS biometric databases. The tool extends surveillance beyond border settings into domestic operations, raising concerns over false matches, lack of consent, and limited oversight. Internal documents show no opt-out option, and it’s unclear how existing data retention rules apply.
AuthID and Prove Partner on Deepfake-Resistant Identity Verification
AuthID and Prove have partnered to offer a deepfake-resistant identity verification platform combining AuthID’s PrivacyKey biometric authentication and Prove’s digital identity tools. The joint solution targets AI-driven fraud by integrating real-time biometric checks, deepfake detection algorithms, and privacy-preserving architecture that stores no biometric data. It supports FIDO2 passkeys and aims to meet rising demand from sectors like finance and healthcare for secure, scalable, and user-friendly identity verification amid growing synthetic identity threats.
Trident Signs Exclusive Deal to Build DRCPass Digital ID System for Democratic Republic of Congo
Trident Digital Tech Holdings has signed an exclusive agreement with the Democratic Republic of Congo to deploy DRCPass, a nationwide digital ID system serving over 80 million mobile users. Delivered via Trident’s Tridentity app, the system will enable biometric SIM registration, e-government access, digital payments, and citizen authentication. Built on Web 3.0 technology, DRCPass aims to expand financial inclusion and modernize digital services. The rollout includes a public education campaign, but data protection measures remain unclear as the DRC finalizes its privacy legislation.
UK Publishes Gamma (0.4) Digital Identity Framework, Setting New Standards for Identity Verification Services
The UK has released the Gamma (0.4) version of its Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework, setting updated standards for certified identity verification services used in right to work, right to rent, and DBS checks. Effective July 1, 2025, Gamma will replace the Beta (0.3) framework, with full transition required by March 31, 2026. The new version introduces supplementary codes for specific use cases and mandates higher confidence levels for background checks. Though pre-legislative, Gamma will guide certification until formal legislation is enacted.
