Huami has expanded its Amazfit line of smartwatches with the release of the Amazfit GTS. The new watch comes with a 1.65″ curved glass screen with a 341 PPI AMOLED display and a battery that can last for up to 14 days. It also offers the expected array of smartwatch applications, including calendar alerts and notifications, a find-my-phone feature, weather forecasts, and Bluetooth capabilities.
The key selling point, however, may be the Amazfit’s robust suite of health and fitness applications. The watch tracks the wearer’s heartrate with the help of the Huami’s Bio Tracker optical sensor, which provides 24-hour monitoring and links to an app that allows the user to analyze the results in much greater detail. The app can then provide a notification if an anomaly is detected or the wearer’s heartrate moves outside a given range.
In addition to heartrate, the watch can track sleep and calorie consumption, and can remind the user if they’ve been sitting still for an extended period of time. The body itself is 9.4mm thick and comes in six different colors, and is water resistant up to 50 meters.
At the moment, the Amazfit GTS is only available in Europe, though Huami’s partnership with a San Francisco design firm suggests that the company may be looking to make its way into the American market at some point in the future. Huami integrated Amazon Alexa into the Amazfit Verge smartwatch earlier this year, but did not indicate whether or not Amazfit GTS would offer the same support for voice recognition.
