Goodix Heart Rate Sensor Featured in New Huami Earbuds

Goodix Heart Rate Sensor Featured in New Huami Earbuds

Goodix continues to build a reputation as a leading provider of biometric tech for consumer devices, announcing this week that its heart rate detection sensor is being used in Huami’s Amazfit PowerBuds Pro.

The new earbuds have just launched in China, and sport a number of fitness-tracking capabilities. In addition to monitoring the user’s heart rate, the earbuds can track steps and calories burned, and they can monitor the wearer’s spinal posture when sitting.

For Goodix, the integration marks its further expansion into physiological, fitness-tracking biometrics. The company has established a high profile as a provider of fingerprint sensors for mobile devices after making a name for itself as a pioneer of in-display technology in particular back in 2017. And while Goodix has continued to provide sensors for smartphones in recent years, it has also ventured into fitness-tracking biometric solutions such as a heart rate and blood oxygen sensor that was integrated into a Realme smartwatch last year.

That having been said, Goodix offered no details about the technological aspects of its heart rate sensor in its announcement about the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro integration. The company was content merely to offers its ‘congratulations’ to Huami on the device’s China launch.

Beyond their biometric capabilities, the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro earbuds sport a number of other notable specs, including IP55 dust and water resistance, a 68mAh battery (with a 510Mah charging case), and 40 dB active noice cancellation.

According to GizmoChina, the earbuds had already launched outside of China in July of this year, and are now launching within the region alongside new Amazfit smartwatches. Huami first unveiled its new biometric earbuds at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show, just before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
