Honduras Contracts TECH5 for Digital ID and Decentralized Public Infrastructure Initiative

TECH5 has been awarded a major government contract to help establish a national Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in Honduras, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growing portfolio of digital identity initiatives. Partnering with the local firm International Technology Group (ITG), TECH5 will implement a comprehensive decentralized digital ID program designed to modernize credential management for Honduran citizens and residents.

The project will digitize four key physical credentials — the National ID card, Foreign Resident ID, Driving License, and Firearms Permit — consolidating them into a secure digital wallet accessible via smartphones. Access to the wallet will be protected through biometric authentication, leveraging face and fingerprint modalities captured with TECH5’s proprietary T5-AirSnap technology.

Building a Secure, Standards-Based Digital ID Platform

According to TECH5, the digital wallet will support frictionless onboarding, credential management, and selective data disclosure through offline-verifiable digital credentials using the T5-Cryptograph solution. The system’s trust framework will be anchored in biometric databases managed by Honduras’s National Registry (RNP) and Immigration Authority (INM), aligning with W3C standards for decentralized credentials.

The initiative builds upon TECH5’s broader efforts to enhance privacy and security in digital identity. Earlier this year, the company announced a U.S. patent for a privacy-focused multi-biometric digital ID system, underscoring its commitment to decentralized and user-controlled identity solutions. TECH5’s innovations have consistently emphasized minimizing the risks associated with biometric data storage and misuse, as demonstrated by its development of ISO 30136-compliant template protection technology.

A Regional Leader in Digital Identity Transformation

Gerardo Pacheco, CEO of ITG, emphasized the significance of the project, stating that Honduras will be “leading the region” in digital infrastructure development by digitizing vital credentials for citizens and residents alike. TECH5’s Co-Founder and CTO, Rahul Parthe, highlighted the broader vision, noting that the DPI infrastructure would eventually support applications such as eKYC, single sign-on (SSO), and payments, creating interoperable “rails for identity, payments, digital assets, and data exchange.”

The first phase of the program, planned for the first half of 2025, will focus on building out the wallet infrastructure and official verification application, capable of serving the entire Honduran population. This ambitious deployment reflects growing global momentum around decentralized identity systems and demonstrates TECH5’s increasing influence in the field.
