Hampton Unveils BenjiLock Biometric Bike Lock

Hampton Products has released a new biometric bike lock that uses fingerprint recognition to verify the identities of users. The BenjiLock-branded Fingerprint Bike Lock can store up to 10 prints, allowing owners to share the lock with approved friends and family members. The lock also comes with a physical key that lets people open it without being registered.

The original BenjiLock was a biometric padlock that debuted in 2017. Hampton followed that up with a TSA-approved travel lock in 2019, and is now continuing to expand the BenjiLock portfolio with this year’s bike lock addition. The U-Lock boasts an 8-inch steel shackle design, and is able to withstand both bolt cutters and a variety of weather conditions. It is built with a cylinder that is resistant to picks and drills, and is dust and water resistant at the IP65 level.

The BenjiLock Fingerprint Bike Lock will retail at $79. It runs on lithium batteries that can last six months with a single charge, and comes with the USB cable needed to recharge it when those batteries do run out.

“With bicycle sales soaring since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and over 100 million electric bicycles expected to be sold over the next 2-4 years, it’s a perfect time to be innovating in the bike security category,” said Hampton President and CEO Kim Kelley.

Hampton is not the only company pushing biometric bike locks. ZiiLock ran a successful crowdfunding campaign for its own foldable lock back in 2019.
