Fingerprint Cards has placed one of its sensors in a new biometric padlock from Aran Tecnovation. The Aran Lock is built with FPC’s BM-Lite fingerprint module, which made its debut back in November and is geared towards IoT applications.
Aran Tecnovation is based in India, and claims that the Aran Lock is the first biometric padlock to be released in the country. The lock can be opened with Morse Code, and can also be paired with a mobile app that allows users to control the lock using a Wi-Fi connection. The company is pitching the lock to corporate and consumer audiences.
The Aran Lock represents FPC’s most recent attempt to expand its portfolio beyond smart cards and mobile devices. The fingerprint recognition specialist recently placed a sensor in the new Halo Touch door lock from Kwikset, which was unveiled during last month’s CES show in Las Vegas. The company’s sensors are also appearing in a new carry-on suitcase from Kabuto, and it has since released a pair of new fingerprint sensors designed specifically for access control.
The BM-Lite, meanwhile, seems to have gained traction with Indian equipment manufacturers. The biometric module has already been integrated into the ByteSeal authentication card from Elementik Technologies.
