Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics’ technologies are once again powering the fingerprint scanning capabilities of a new smartphone from China-based OEM Gionee. Called the Gionee W909, the device features an FPC1025 sensor running Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithm software.
It’s the same sensor model that was recently integrated into Coolpad’s Note 3 Lite and QiKu’s Flagship Ultimate smartphone, among others. And while Gionee used a different sensor model in its recent M5 Plus and M5 Enjoy devices, it still stuck with FPC as its sensor supplier, and in all cases the sensors used have been running Precise Biometrics’ flagship mobile fingerprint scanning software.
The latest integration further cements FPC’s and Precise Biometrics’ leading positions as biometric technology suppliers for OEMs, having enjoyed booming business with the mobile biometrics wave of the last couple of years. While smartphone OEMs continue to remain very interesting in fingerprint scanners, many are also starting to investigate other biometric modalities; but FPC and Precise Biometrics are also starting to look beyond the smartphone fingerprint sensor market, exploring options in areas such as smart cards as they continue to expand.
