Fingerprint Cards (FPC) is teaming up with Giesecke + Devrient Mobile Security (G+D) to produce a contactless biometric payment card featuring FPC’s T-Shape sensor. The new card is already on its way to the market, and will be deployed in FPC’s newly announced card trial with the French bank Crédit Agricole.
The trial with Crédit Agricole is the 20th such trial for FPC, and speaks to the company’s successful efforts to move into the biometric card market and diversify its portfolio through partnerships with companies like G+D.
“This is a clear manifest of the growing appetite for biometric payments cards, and our strong position within this market,” said Thomas Rex, the Senior Vice President of FPC’s Business Smartcard Line.
“Biometric card solutions are both convenient and secure,” added G+D Head of Product Management Payment Mikko Kähkönen. “Fingerprints provided the right technology to launch our biometric card solution that ensures the protection of the user.”
FPC is best known for providing fingerprint sensors for smartphones, and the mobile market continues to be an integral component of its business. G+D, meanwhile, recently formed a White Label Alliance with IDEMIA, creating an independent body that will work to set global standards for the entire payments industry.
