Germany-based cloud workspace provide IGEL has announced the integration of Fujitsu’s PalmSecure technology for contactless biometric authentication for its IGEL OS.
PalmSecure uses infrared light to capture the vein pattern in a person’s palm, generating a unique biometric signature that is immediately encrypted before transmission from the capture sensors. The F-Pro series of PalmSecure is 50 percent smaller than the previous generation version while having enhanced capture and authentication templates. The F-Pro, which is also able to operate in higher ambient sunlight and temperature conditions than its predecessor, boasts a False Acceptance Rate (FAR) of below 0.00001% and a False Rejection Rate (FRR) of 0.01%, while typically allowing for authentication in less than one second.
“IGEL is always looking for ways to help organizations support faster, more secure and reliable data access for their end users,” said Matthias Haas, Chief Technology Officer, IGEL. “Biometric technology should not slow down access to critical business applications, and with Fujitsu’s award-winning PalmSecure technology, we are able to provide our mutual customers with secure… authentication at the endpoint that also contributes to improved end-user productivity, while at the same time helping to protect the health and safety of workers.”
IGEL OS for cloud workspaces is a Linux-based OS provider known for its “next generation edge operating system”. IGEL has software and hardware partnerships with some of the largest tech companies in the world including Citrix, Microsoft, Amazon, AMD, Intel, LG, Samsung and NVidia.
“By integrating support for Fujitsu PalmSecure F-Pro technology into IGEL OS, IGEL is further enabling fast and secure endpoint access for end users across a broad range of industries – from healthcare to financial services,” said Oliver Reyers, head of biometric-based security solution business, Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH. “Together, we are helping to ensure fast and reliable authentication while saving businesses both time and resources,” he added.
PalmSecure integration adds to existing IGEL OS security features including support for two-factor authentication (2FA), smart card readers and trusted execution.
