Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has released a curved, side-mounted fingerprint sensor that was designed specifically for borderless smartphones. The FPC1542 can be integrated into a power button, or a button that serves some other purpose, such as scrolling or volume control.
The new FPC1542 sensor builds on the success of the FPC1540, which is similarly a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The FPC1540 debuted one year ago in November of 2019, and has since been integrated into devices like the Redmi K30, the Infinix Note 7 Lite, and Vinsmart’s Vsmart Aris and Vsmart Aris Pro.
According to FPC, the first volume shipments of the FPC1542 will go out in the fourth quarter of 2020, while the first smartphone with the new sensor will hit the market in the first quarter of 2021. The slim, capacitive touch sensor can be coated in different colors to match the design of different devices.
“We have seen a growing demand for sensors that offer maximum design flexibility without compromising on security or functionality,” said FPC Mobile Business Line SVP Ted Hansson. “With the launch of this new sensor, we bring something truly unique to mobile OEMs, taking enhanced user experience and optimized designs to the next level.”
FPC has also unveiled an upgraded version of its popular T-Shape fingerprint sensor module.
