Bitcoin financial-services provider Fold has deployed Persona to handle identity verification during customer sign-up, replacing its previous verification system with a guided workflow that has been live since July 14.
New customers complete their identity checks inside Fold’s onboarding flow. When an application requires more information or an additional step, the integration presents instructions intended to help the applicant resolve the issue without leaving the process or contacting support immediately.
Fold is using the platform to monitor where applicants encounter friction and to adjust the sequence of checks. The company said the change is intended to improve reliability and conversion while maintaining the identity controls required for a regulated financial-services business.
Persona provides configurable verification workflows that can combine government-issued identity documents, database checks, device signals and biometric verification. The selected checks can change according to the applicant, product and risk signals rather than forcing every customer through the same sequence.
The provider has been extending its platform beyond conventional document uploads. Persona recently expanded support for national digital identity wallets and bank-backed NFC credentials, allowing organizations to accept reusable digital evidence in markets where those systems are available.
It has also moved further into payments infrastructure. Modern Treasury embedded Persona’s KYC and KYB tools into its onboarding system this year, combining identity checks for individuals and businesses with payment-account setup.
Fold offers bitcoin-related financial products, including a payment card and an app that provides bitcoin rewards. Its identity-verification process must therefore support customer onboarding while supplying information used in fraud controls and compliance reviews.
The Persona integration follows the rollout of Fold’s Bitcoin Credit Card and a series of capital transactions intended to support product expansion. Fold CEO Will Reeves said the company selected Persona to improve the onboarding experience and give its teams better information about the causes of failed or delayed verification attempts.
Fold’s implementation can route an applicant through additional steps when the first verification attempt is inconclusive. The guided path is intended to distinguish a resolvable issue, such as a new image request, from a case that requires manual review or cannot proceed through automated onboarding.
