Modern Treasury and Persona Embed KYC and KYB in Payments Onboarding

Payments operations software company Modern Treasury has announced a partnership with identity verification platform Persona to embed KYC and Know Your Business (KYB) workflows directly into Modern Treasury’s payment infrastructure, allowing companies to run identity and business entity verification within the same environment as payment operations.

The integration targets fintechs, marketplaces, and enterprises building payment products across multiple geographies. Companies using Modern Treasury’s platform can now conduct legal entity screening and automated compliance checks during customer and counterparty onboarding without switching between separate compliance tools. Automated verification workflows are designed to reduce the volume of manual compliance reviews while maintaining regulatory controls across jurisdictions.

Modern Treasury supports ACH, Wire, RTP, FedNow, Push-to-Card, and stablecoin transactions and has powered more than $400 billion in payments for hundreds of organizations. The company is backed by Benchmark, Altimeter, and Salesforce Ventures and was co-founded by CEO Matt Marcus. Persona was founded in 2018, raised $200 million at a $2 billion valuation, and serves clients across more than 200 countries and territories. Persona CEO Rick Song co-founded the company. Modern Treasury’s customer base skews toward fintechs, marketplaces, and vertical SaaS operators that move funds on behalf of end users, a segment where embedded KYB has become the constraint on onboarding throughput rather than a compliance checkbox at account opening.

Both companies’ leaders commented on the rationale: Marcus indicated the company’s focus is on integrating strong compliance capabilities into its platform, while Song noted that identity verification presents distinct challenges in business contexts, where entity structures are more complex than individual consumer verification.

The deal is among several recent signals of Persona’s expansion into enterprise platform identity verification, which also included Anthropic’s adoption of Persona for Claude capability access just days earlier. The partnership comes as Persona rebuilds enterprise trust following Discord cutting ties with Persona over data handling concerns in February 2026. A technical session related to the partnership is scheduled for April 23, 2026.

For payment operators handling counterparty onboarding across jurisdictions with differing AML and KYB requirements, the integration is intended to reduce the overhead of maintaining separate compliance stacks for each market. Modern Treasury has not disclosed pricing or specific timeline details for the integrated offering beyond the April 21 announcement.
