The Digital ID & Authentication Council of Canada (DIACC) has announced that FaceTec, Inc. has officially rejoined as a member, bringing their experience in remote identity verification back to the council.
FaceTec is perhaps best known for its 3D FaceMap technology, which captures detailed, three-dimensional facial maps, making it challenging to bypass or spoof, and thus helping to ensure accurate identity verification without the need for physical presence.
FaceTec’s participation in DIACC is anticipated to influence the evolution of digital identity standards in Canada, contributing to the country’s efforts in innovation within the field of identity verification. The DIACC, though a non-profit and not a government entity, plays a crucial role in shaping Canada’s digital identity landscape, with ongoing efforts to extend digital ID functionality across borders through partnerships like the one with Open Identity Exchange (OIX).
Earlier this year, the DIACC released version 1.2 of its Pan-Canadian Trust Framework (PCTF) Authentication Final Recommendation, marking a significant step towards its inclusion in DIACC’s Certification Program.
The framework establishes eight Trusted Processes to ensure secure and reliable digital authentication, from Credential Issuance to Credential Revocation. It also specifies four Levels of Assurance (LOA) to gauge the confidence in authentication processes, ranging from low to very high, with specific criteria for each level. And it aligns with industry standards, advocating for the use of biometrics alongside other authentication factors for enhanced security.
By standardizing these processes, the PCTF Authentication Component aims to support secure digital interactions across various sectors, benefiting both service providers and users.
