“The synergies between the two companies’ technologies are clear, with FaceTec’s biometric tech able to verify the identities of the end users of Scytáles’s mobile IDs by matching them to their official identity documents.”
FaceTec will be expanding into the growing mobile ID space through a new strategic partnership with Scytáles.
Based in Sweden, the latter company specializes in ISO-compliant technology that is used to create mobile-based digital versions of official identity documents. A driver’s license, for example, could be stored on the license holder’s mobile device and verified by a government authority with an NFC tap or a scan. The same approach can be used for other kinds of ID cards or even COVID vaccination certificates.
The partnership will aim to combine Scytáles’s technology with FaceTec’s highly sophisticated 3D face authentication technology. FaceTec has found enormous success in the financial services industry as various banks and services providers have sought out reliable remote onboarding solutions; and in its most recent quarterly update, the company signaled plans to dramatically expand into additional market areas.
The synergies between the two companies’ technologies are clear, with FaceTec’s biometric tech able to verify the identities of the end users of Scytáles’s mobile IDs by matching them to their official identity documents. A statement announcing the partnership placed particular emphasis on FaceTec’s 3D Liveness detection technology, which can reliably spot ‘spoofing’ attempts in which genuine biometric credentials are mimicked for fraudulent purposes.
For his part, FaceTec CEO Kevin Alan Tussy lauded Scytáles for its “stellar work in national IDs, travel documents and resident permits, healthcare cards, corporate cards, and smart and loyalty cards in government and enterprise,” which he framed as “an excellent fit for our advanced 3D AI face verification technology.”
“We are looking forward to working with Scytáles on many important mobile ID projects in the years to come,” Tussy added.
The partnership’s announcement comes on the heels of the news that Onfido has built a new biometric authentication system based on FaceTec technology, further testifying to FaceTec’s status as an industry leader in face-based authentication.
