FaceTec has received two new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), expanding its intellectual property portfolio and reinforcing its position in 3D biometric identity verification and liveness detection. With the additions, FaceTec now holds 39 granted patents and has 33 more pending.

Core Innovations in 3D Liveness Detection
The newly awarded U.S. patent application 18/205,968 includes five independent claims related to the evaluation of three-dimensional facial imagery. It builds upon FaceTec’s Certified 3D Liveness Detection technology, a central component of its identity verification platform that has undergone independent security testing. The technology supports over 3.5 billion Liveness Checks per year, up from the 2.6 billion reported in late 2024.
The second patent, U.S. Design Patent D1,074,689, protects the user interface design element that guides users during facial capture. This distinct oval-shaped framing has been a hallmark of FaceTec’s platform for nearly a decade and is widely recognized within the identity technology sector.
“FaceTec has the best and brightest R&D team in biometrics, and we are dedicated to advancing 3D face verification security,” said CEO Kevin Alan Tussy. “We will continue our tradition of rapid in-house innovation to meet the dynamic needs of our global customer base.” Tussy has consistently highlighted the evolving threat landscape in biometric authentication over the past several years.
Broader Strategy and Global Reach
In parallel with its R&D efforts, FaceTec continues to grow its market presence, particularly in the public sector. The company recently appointed Faith Contreras, formerly with the Arizona Department of Transportation, as Director of Government Outreach. At the same time, it has taken legal steps to defend its intellectual property, including ongoing patent litigation to protect its proprietary technologies.
FaceTec’s technology stack includes UR Codes for privacy-preserving authentication, 3D FaceMaps designed to prevent phishing, and a complete suite of KYC and IDV solutions. To reinforce its security posture, the company operates a $600,000 spoof bounty program, encouraging external experts to test and challenge its systems under controlled conditions.
With headquarters in the United States and additional offices in the United Kingdom, Brazil, Portugal, Mexico, Canada, and Singapore, FaceTec serves clients across sectors including government digital ID programs, banking, e-commerce, and online platforms. Its growing patent portfolio and continued product development underscore its active role in shaping the global biometric security landscape.
