FacePhi has co-founded a new academic research project with IE University and INUIT Foundation, a Spanish investment vehicle focused on social impact. The project, dubbed “JOIN4IMPACT”, will accordingly be focused on promoting projects aimed at delivering a positive social impact.
JOIN4IMPACT will have an initial term of three years, with the option to extend annually; and it will see the publication of an annual research report available to the public. It will leverage FacePhi’s and other partners’ experience in business training and technological research in pursuit of its broader social aims.
In a statement announcing the project, FacePhi CEO Javier Mira called it “a great step in our firm commitment to building bridges of knowledge between technology and society,” adding, “Our goal is to promote sound understanding of the changes happening in technology, their positive impact on our society today and great potential with opportunities they will bring for building a better future.”
FacePhi is, of course, known as a pioneer in biometrics, particularly with respect to selfie-based identity verification and leveraging mobile devices for the use of facial recognition. The company is an important player in Spain’s tech sector, and was designated a strategically important company by the Spanish government in 2021. That eased the bureaucratic hurdles involved in hiring international talent, enabling FacePhi to further bolster its in-house expertise in the ensuing months.
In early February, FacePhi reported that 2022 had been its best fiscal year yet, marking a 69 percent revenue increase over 2021. More recently, the company announced the appointment of Alejandro Gómez de Cuenca as its Senior Vice President of its new Partners Channel, with Javier Mira explaining that the new executive’s “extensive experience in marketing digital identification products will allow us to access new areas and diversify our current channels.”
