“The EAB’s membership has materialized at a critical time in Europe’s biometrics sector…”
The European Association for Biometrics has joined the Secure Identity Alliance, the organizations have announced.
The EAB will act as an ‘Advisory Observer’, a role in which it will “advise and support SIA’s global advocate, policy and technical guidance roles,” according to a statement from the SIA. Other Advisory Observers include government agencies, academic groups, and similar industry organizations.
Commenting on the EAB’s appointment to the Alliance, EAB Chief Executive Michiel van der Veen explained, “There are many challenges and opportunities that require a multi-stakeholder approach involving government, academia and industry.”
The SIA’s Chairman of the Board, Frédéric Trojani, called the EAB “one of Europe’s leading voices in the Digital ID and biometrics arena,” adding later, “Its unbiased and in-depth expertise on biometrics and identity will offer crucial insights into our Work Group programs and support our mission of supporting the provision of legal, trusted identity for all, and to drive the development of inclusive digital services necessary for sustainable, worldwide economic growth and prosperity.”
The EAB’s membership has materialized at a critical time in Europe’s biometrics sector, with the European Union having introduced new regulations this year concerning consumer data protection and privacy that have helped to drive the adoption of biometric authentication and security technologies.
