Super Secure DarkMatter KATIM Smartphone Features FPC Sensor

A Fingerprint Cards sensor is being used in a new smartphone that places a strong focus on security.

Called DarkMatter KATIM, it’s the first smartphone from UAE-based KATIM. In addition to the fingerprint authentication enabled by its FPC1145 fingerprint sensor, the device employs a number of other security mechanisms: It performs an internal assessment of its software stack upon each restart; it encrypts all data; it offers comprehensive PKI-based key management for the user; and it has a removable ‘crypto card’, without which it cannot function.

On its website, KATIM hints that there are additional security features of the device that have not yet been revealed. Intriguingly, in its own statement announcing the FPC1145 integration, Fingerprint Cards called the DarkMatter KATIM a “secure and self-destructive mobile”.

Other features of the device include a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, IP67 water and dust resistance, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display. A release date for the smartphone has not yet been announced.
