Ireland’s An Post postal service is enabling new customers to remotely activate accounts using selfie onboarding technology from Daon.
An Post is using the latter’s IdentityX platform to let customers register by submitting images of their official ID together with a selfie; IdentityX then uses facial recognition to match them. “Our goal is to provide high levels of customer satisfaction by ensuring a great user experience, while doing as much as we can to protect customers and An Post from fraudsters,” explained An Post Chief Digital & Technology Officer Des Morley.
While An Post has opted to use facial recognition specifically, Daon’s Identity X is a multimodal biometric platform that allows for the digital onboarding and verification across all devices and channels.
“An Post continues to provide customer benefits from innovative technology, both in person within its post offices, and within its digital channels,” said Clive Bourke, President of EMEA and APAC at Daon. “Together with An Post, we’re making sure the benefits of our identity assurance technologies enable more banking customers to register safely and securely.”
The news is the latest in a recent slew of announcements for Daon; earlier this month the company revealed that newly-launched Phillippine digital bank, GoTyme Bank, is using IdentityX to provide selfie-based onboarding capabilities for its users.
