CyberLink is optimizing its FaceMe facial recognition solution for industry-specific use cases. In that regard, the company has released a new FaceMe TimeClock offering to track employee attendance, and a new FaceMe Smart Retail offering to provide retailers with more accurate customer data.
Of the two, FaceMe TimeClock is geared more toward internal applications. It asks a given employee to register their facial biometrics, and the system will capture a new image of that person and compare it to that encrypted template when they get to work. If it is a match, the employee will automatically be clocked in and marked as present. Administrators can view and manage employee attendance reports through a backend dashboard.
According to CyberLink, FaceMe TimeClock is ideal for large facilities like factories and retail establishments. The solution is designed to speed up check-in procedures to eliminate bottlenecks, and to mitigate card swapping and other behaviors that lead to inaccuracies.
FaceMe Smart Retail, on the other hand, does not have any facial matching capabilities. The solution instead monitors store traffic, and classifies shoppers based on categories like age, gender, and facial expression. However, it does not record any personal information or individual face templates, nor does it identify any end users.
The data it does collect can be analyzed to give administrators a better understanding of shopper behavior. That information can then be analyzed to improve retail operations. Administrators can access the dashboard from any browser, while the system itself can scale to integrate data from any number of surveillance cameras at any number of locations.
“Major improvements in hardware performance and affordability have enabled [facial recognition’s] deployment into more valuable use cases while driving adoption,” said CyberLink CEO Jau Huang. “We are proud to introduce our first use case-specific solutions to the market and expand the realm of possibilities for facial recognition technology.”
FaceMe TimeClock and FaceMe Smart Retail both draw on the FaceMe Platform APIs that CyberLink unveiled in May. The company passed the second level of iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection test earlier this year, and has since gone on to become an Associate Member of the FIDO Alliance.
