Taiwan-based AI and facial recognition tech company CyberLink has announced a partnership with semiconductor company MediaTek that will see its FaceMe artificial intelligence-powered biometric authentication solution support MediaTek’s i350 Edge AI ecosystem.
The i350 edge AI platform was launched by MediaTek to aid AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) applications that rely upon vision and voice edge processing.
“The addition of biometric identification to AIoT creates an incredible opportunity to improve security and access control with edge devices,” said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. “It’s our honor to join MediaTek’s AIoT ecosystem. Through the integration of FaceMe and i350, system integrators will now have access to the most efficient yet low-power consumption applications with identity verification, providing a new class of industry infrastructure to move the biometric technology forward.”
The partnership will open the door for the compatibility of FaceMe’s biometric facial recognition with a range of Internet of Things-connected smart home appliances, public interface kiosks, and retail Point of Sale systems. Combined with MediaTek’s NeuroPilot platform, the speed of FaceMe’s facial recognition algorithms can be increased beyond the 0.12 seconds verification currently takes.
Biometric authentication in AIoT devices can be used across of number of industries, including security, access control, public safety, smart retail, Point of Sale, and digital signage.
CyberLink and its FaceMe solution have enjoyed a strong year, as the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic growth in demand for contactless biometric solutions throughout the world. Earlier this week the company announced a new partnership with a Latin American airport services company that will see FaceMe utilized in a variety of ways by a number of airports across the continent.
