“…the company is estimating that its biometric modules are being used in about 50 percent of the fingerprint-based POS devices in the market.”
India is emerging as a key market for Crossmatch, with the company announcing that sales of its 500 ppi fingerprint readers in the country have surpassed 750,000 units.
Sales have been channeled primarily through Crossmatch’s domestic partner AqTronics Technologies, and are of course being driven by Aadhaar, India’s pervasive biometric national ID program. Crossmatch CEO Richard Agostinelli hinted at this success in an interview with FindBiometrics earlier this year, in which he explained that the rise of Aadhaar-based digital payments “has been a strong area of growth” for his company. Now, the company is estimating that its biometric modules are being used in about 50 percent of the fingerprint-based POS devices in the market.
In a statement announcing its Indian sales milestone, Crossmatch emphasized that the 500 ppi imaging standard is the one that was initially used for Aadhaar registration, and still required by India’s Standardization Testing and Quality Certification program, making Crossmatch’s U.are.U optical fingerprint readers and TouchChip scanners ideally suited for the biometric ID program.
The Unique Identification Authority of India, which oversees Aadhaar, gave Crossmatch its L0 – Registered Device certification last September, and Crossmatch says its now in the process of getting L1 – Registered Device certification.
