FacePhi has picked up a second financial customer in Uruguay. The facial recognition specialist has announced that it will be delivering the SelphID onboarding and authentication platform for Creditel, which is one of the largest credit providers in the country.
SelphID utilizes document and facial recognition to compare a selfie to the photo on an official government ID. The platform is available on iOS and Android devices and through the web, and prospective Creditel customers will be able to use it to open a fully digital account without ever setting foot in a bank branch location.
The credit company launched its first mobile app in 2016, and then updated it with a “Creditel in Your Pocket” version in 2017. However, the SelphID integration is expected to improve the security and the convenience of Creditel’s mobile services.
Creditel itself is a member of Grupo Santander. The new deal was reached the help of FacePhi’s technological partnership with SORT Consulting, and was signed roughly a year after FacePhi agreed to provide similar onboarding services for HSBC Uruguay. It is also in keeping with FacePhi’s expansion efforts in Latin America.
“[The partnership] falls within the strategic lines of our expansion plan which, in addition to the LATAM market, also sets its goals in Asia and the Pacific,” said FacePhi CEO Javier Mira.
The news indicates that FacePhi has indeed been able to maintain and advance its primary business operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company issued a statement to that effect earlier this month, while partnering with NSSMART to deploy biometric authentication technology at the Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul, South Korea.
FacePhi recently teamed up with Santander Argentina and the Credicorp Bank in Panama to get off to a strong start in 2020. The company is hoping to improve on its stellar growth in 2019.
