At the end of what has felt for many like a particularly dark week, it’s perhaps no surprise that almost all of the items in our roundup of FindBiometrics’ most popular articles concern technologies related to COVID-19. Fortunately, these are all positive stories, pointing to ways that society can cope with at least one of the pressing issues of the day.
One example comes by way of Vuzix and TensorMark, which have teamed up to develop a pandemic-era venue access screening solution based on smart glasses-powered Augmented Reality:
Vuzix, TensorMark Team Up on Biometric COVID-19 Credential Screening Solution
FindBiometrics readers were also understandably interested this week in the news that a team of researchers believe they can detect the early signs of COVID-19 through analysis of biometric data from a smart ring:
Data from Biometric Ring Can Predict Onset of COVID-19, Researchers Say
Meanwhile, TECH5 announced a new “T5 Digital Identity Toolkit” that can be used to create secure digital credentials at a time when COVID-19 is discouraging the handling of physical IDs:
TECH5 Highlights COVID-era Benefits of New Biometric Identity Toolkit
Then there was the news that National Australia Bank had implemented voice recognition technology from Nuance Communications to beef up call center security. This is part of a larger trend that has been ongoing for several years now, but it’s perhaps particularly important at a time when the pandemic has pushed many bank customers to digital and phone-based channels, rather than in-person branch visits:
National Australia Bank Secures Contact Center with Nuance Voice Biometrics
Finally, another hugely popular article this week was our interview with IDEMIA Biometric Devices VP of Marketing Nicolas Raffin. This, of course, is not technically COVID-19 news… but guess what turns out to be an important topic in the discussion:
INTERVIEW: IDEMIA’s Nicolas Raffin Discusses the Company’s Latest Biometric Solutions, COVID-19, and What’s Next
