CMITech Highlights Benefits of Contactless Biometrics in Recent Hospital Deployment

CMITech is celebrating a successful deployment of its iris recognition technology at a healthcare center in Anyang, Korea. The deployment concerns CMITech’s EF-45 dual iris recognition solution, which is being used by the Hallym University Medical Center.

The healthcare center’s aim in deploying the biometric solution was to comply with new regulations requiring healthcare organizations to record the names of individuals accessing rooms used for surgery, delivery, and intensive care, along with the purpose of their visits.

The compact, wall-mounted EF-45 prompts individuals to position their faces within a range of 35 to 45 cm of the unit in order to proceed with its iris scan. All biometric processing is performed on the device in order to identify registered users.

CMITech says that 3,000 hospital employees have now been enrolled in the system, helping to facilitate the operations of one of Korea’s largest medical institutions. What’s more, the contactless operation of the device offers the assurance of helping to mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus. As CMITech underlines in its White Paper, the “COVID-19 outbreak makes hygiene one of the most important factors in selecting access control identification technology.”
