CLEAR will continue to offer contactless passenger screening to travelers at the Denver International Airport (DEN). The two parties have renewed their partnership for another three years, with a contract that contains an option for an additional ten years after that.
CLEAR first started offering its secure identity platform at DEN in 2010. The new arrangement will extend that to 2023, and potentially to 2033 should the airport pick up the option. CLEAR has enrolled more than 5 million people in its program nationwide, a figure that includes a full 10 percent of the local Denver population.
The opt-in CLEAR system uses iris recognition to verify people’s identities as they move through the airport. Those who register for the program do not need to hand their physical travel documents to agents at security checkpoints, and can instead progress through those checkpoints once they complete a biometric scan.
The contactless feature will minimize the amount of face-to-face contact between travelers and employees to help reduce the threat of COVID-19. CLEAR has also set up a demonstration of its new Health Pass application to further promote public safety. The app allows people to share COVID-19 test results without forcing them to disclose any other personal information.
“DEN was our very first airport,” said CLEAR Chairman and CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “We are humbled to have earned the trust of so many local residents and travelers over the past 10 years and look forward to our continued partnership in the years to come.”
CLEAR memberships are available on an annual basis. The company’s contactless screening technology has now been deployed at multiple US airports and baseball stadiums, including Coors Field in Colorado.
In the meantime, DEN has taken other steps to promote public health during the pandemic. The airport has recently been testing contactless identity solutions in collaboration with Daon.
