CLEAR Launches Biometric Boarding Solution

Having seen its biometric expedited screening program expand across a wide range of US airports over the last few years, CLEAR is now launching a new solution that could further spur the identity revolution in air travel: A biometric boarding system.

Called “CLEAR Simplified Boarding ID and Boarding Pass Verification”, the solution links CLEAR members’ fingerprint and iris biometrics to their boarding pass and identity documents. In practice, that means that individuals will be able to pass through airport security screening even more easily, and possibly without the need to present physical documents.

At its launch, the biometric boarding system applies to CLEAR members who have linked their Delta SkyMiles numbers to their CLEAR profiles. And CLEAR says that this system can already be used at 21 major airports, including Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Reagan National Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport.

Commenting on the new solution in a statement, CLEAR President Ken Cornick said it’s another measure aimed at taking friction out of the traveler verification process and enhancing the “entire curb-to-gate experience.”

The airport boarding solution’s announcement comes amid CLEAR’s parallel expansion beyond airport facilities and into large-scale venues like New York’s Madison Square Garden, which just announced its support for CLEAR’s expedited screening solution.
