CLEAR has added two more biometric screening lanes for passengers at Boston Logan International Airport. The new lanes are located in the airport’s Terminal B, and will supplement the lanes that CLEAR is already running in Boston in Terminal A.
According to CLEAR, the expanded Boston screening program will create 20 new jobs and could generate as much as $3.3 million worth of economic benefits for Logan International. CLEAR now operates a total of 105 screening lanes at 38 airports all over the country, after launching a new program at Oakland International Airport earlier this year.
The CLEAR system utilizes iris recognition to provide passengers with an expedited screening process at participating airports. Travelers who are interested must opt into the system, with the cost of an annual CLEAR Plus membership breaking down to $15 per month. However, discounts are available to those who are already part of a rewards program like United Airlines MileagePlus, and current members can add additional adults to their plan for $50 a year.
Those who do enter the program can go to a dedicated CLEAR lane instead of a regular lane for screening. The iris scan is contactless, and negates the need for any paper documents. Once their identity has been verified, a CLEAR agent will direct the passenger to a TSA checkpoint for the usual physical security scan.
“We continuously seek out opportunities to provide innovative solutions that will make the travel experience as simple as possible,” said United Airlines Innovations and Solutions Managing Director Maria Walter. “Our partnership with CLEAR demonstrates our continued investment in building a leading customer experience.”
“We are proud to expand our partnership with Massport and bring the frictionless CLEAR experience to even more travelers,” added CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker.
Denver International and Nashville International are some of the other airports that offer CLEAR service to their customers. CLEAR also offers COVID-19 screening services through its Health Pass app on flights from the mainland to Hawaii.
