CLEAR Biometric Passenger Screening Comes to Oakland International Airport

Biometric screening company CLEAR has announced that its touchless biometric security lanes are now available at Oakland International Airport (OAK).

OAK now joins 37 other US airports —including a recent launch at Sacramento International Airport — and over one hundred other partners throughout the sports, entertainment, travel, and enterprise industries to feature the contactless biometric authentication screening solution.

The news comes less than a week after an announcement that the NBA has signed a multi-year contract to use CLEAR’s services in its efforts to be able to safely bring capacity crowds back into arenas in time for the 2021/2022 NBA season. That agreement will see all 30 teams in the league given the option to utilize CLEAR’s Health Pass solution, as well as its biometric screening kiosks.

CLEAR’s opt-in system verifies the identity of passengers that pass through its kiosk gates using iris recognition. Passengers that choose to pre-register for the program are not required to hand any physical travel documents to security checkpoint agents, and are instead able to travel through the gates at the checkpoints once they are authenticated by the biometric scan.

CLEAR memberships are billed annually and cost $15 a month, with Family Plans and select reward program discounts available.
