CLEAR has further extended its expedited screening program beyond airport security, this time bringing it to the car rental process through a new partnership with Hertz.
In a new program called “Hertz Fast Lane powered by CLEAR”, members of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program can link their accounts to their CLEAR accounts, allowing them to confirm their identity and reservation information through a simple fingerprint or face scan at participating rental locations. The system has been launched at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport – a hotbed of airport biometrics – and is expected to reach 40 additional Hertz locations over the next year including JFK International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and LAX.
In a statement announcing the partnership, Hertz CEO Kathryn V. Marinello emphasized the innovation of CLEAR’s biometric program, and its rising profile in the US. “By teaming with CLEAR, Hertz gets a partner with an expanding footprint and proven track record to help us innovate the car rental process, improve the customer experience and bring meaningful benefits to busy travelers,” she said.
CLEAR’s move into car rentals is the latest expansion of its eponymous program from its initial application as a means of speeding up passenger processing at the airport, with the organization having established CLEAR at multiple sports stadiums in recent months and even begun to experiment with biometric payments at concession stands. While airport deployments remain CLEAR’s core focus, this latest development points to a broad horizon of future applications of its biometric screening system.
