“With its accreditation, the lab can now test these metrics against FIDO Biometrics Requirements v1.1 or v2.0, and it will be able to issue test reports approved by FIDO.”
Bank Card Test Center’s Shenzhen lab has now obtained accreditation from the FIDO Alliance for biometric testing.
With this development, BCTC Shenzhen Branch joins a small handful of labs accredited by the influential FIDO Alliance, which seeks to promote strong authentication standards. Other FIDO-accredited biometric testing labs include Switzerland’s Idiap Research Institute, the U.S.-based iBeta, and France’s ELITT/Leti CEA.
That having been said, BCTC is already well known as a provider of third-party evaluation services. The organization tested Fingerprint Cards’ T2 fingerprint sensor and FPC-BEP biometric software earlier this year, and gave its stamp of approval to IDEX Biometrics’ SmartFinger technology in 2019.
Now, its testing will carry the additional authority of FIDO standards.
BCTC testing covers a range of areas, including biometric registration, FRR/FAR accuracy, presentation attack detection, and more. With its accreditation, the lab can now test these metrics against FIDO Biometrics Requirements v1.1 or v2.0, and it will be able to issue test reports approved by FIDO.
In announcing the accreditation, BCTC asserted that it “is committed to providing convenient and high-quality product testing, information system security testing, and other services for customers in Southern China and overseas regions,” adding that it will continue to track the latest developments in biometrics, with a strong focus on the financial applications of such technologies.
