“By combining the FIDO standard with the Anonybit decentralized biometrics framework, enterprises will be able to close the loop across the identity management lifecycle, provide a better user experience for their customers and reduce fraud with the strongest levels of security and data protection. Think of this as the DeFi for authentication.” – Frances Zelazny, CEO, Anonybit
Anonybit has received FIDO certification for its pioneering decentralized biometrics platform.
Dubbed ‘Genie’, the solution is designed to capture biometrics at the time of onboarding, break the biometric template into discrete ‘shards’, and store them in a decentralized fashion so as to make a successful hack attack virtually impossible. Theoretically, a hack attack against a given server might yield one shard of a given biometric template, but its data would be useless without data from the corresponding shards stored elsewhere.
In announcing the FIDO certification, Anonybit co-founder and CEO Frances Zelazny emphasized how her firm’s decentralized approach to biometric enrolment complements the FIDO standard’s focus on enabling post-password authentication.
“One of the main drivers of FIDO has been the promise of once and for all getting rid of passwords, but organizations also need complementary strategies for account enrollment, binding and recovery to protect themselves and their users at every point of the identity lifecycle,” Zelazny explained. “By combining the FIDO standard with the Anonybit decentralized biometrics framework, enterprises will be able to close the loop across the identity management lifecycle, provide a better user experience for their customers and reduce fraud with the strongest levels of security and data protection. Think of this as the DeFi for authentication.”
For FIDO’s part, Executive Director Andrew Shikiar attested that Anonybit’s certification “speaks to its commitment to our mission to reduce the world’s reliance on passwords in favor of modern, user-centric authentication to ensure maximum security and privacy.”
The FIDO certification comes after Anonybit obtained SOC2 and ISO27001 certifications for its platform at the end of summer. Beyond certifications, Anonybit also announced an important partnership with Rank One Computing at the end of August, linking Anonybit’s decentralized biometrics system with one of the top-ranked facial recognition systems in testing conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Anonybit’s FIDO certification comes alongside the company’s listing in Fast Company‘s “Next Big Things in Tech 2022” review, a high-profile endorsement that could help to further build buzz about the startup’s novel approach to biometric identity.
