A new biometric screening solution has been rolled out across the U.S. in a collaboration between Cali Group company PopID and foodservice manufacturer and distributor Wasserstrom.
The solution, called PopEntry+, is aimed at providing a safer work environment for customers and workers during the COVID-19 crisis as businesses around the United States begin plans to return to work following weeks of stay-at-home orders aimed at slowing the spread of the virus.
PopEntry+ allows business owners to improve the security of their business through a combination of facial recognition and biometric temperature screening. Individuals would first need to create a PopID account via a secure web portal on their mobile device, after which they would have their face scanned and temperature taken by a device fixed near a building or business entrance.
PopEntry+ can be attached to a wall and connected to a door’s smart lock to automatically grant access to individuals once they have been recognized and have had their temperature taken to determine they are not exhibiting a fever, one of the symptoms of COVID-19, though it should be noted that asymptomatic carriers of the virus would not necessarily have an elevated temperature.
“We believe that our digital identity platform will play an important role in protecting workers and consumers through automated temperature testing and contact-free payment,” said John Miller, Chairman of Cali Group and CEO of PopID. “In the post-COVID-19 world, companies that succeed will be those that safeguard their people through new, contactless technologies like ours,” he added.
Federal guidelines put in place to guide the transition of returning to work recommend that employers “monitor their workforce for indicative symptoms.”
Establishments can also earn a “POP-Certified” designation recognizing them as a work environment that is doing everything it can to ensure the health, safety and overall well-being of all who physically interact with their business.
This announcement comes a few months after Cali Group announced new measures it was taking at its CaliBurger restaurant chain to combat COVID-19 and help ensure the safety of its employees and customers.
Thus far a number of businesses have already begun using PopEntry+, including Subway, Lemonade, Cava, Metro Diner and Brooklyn Water Bagels, as well as The City of Lancaster; and the PoPID platform already has thousands of registered users. Wasserstrom will handle the sale, shipping, installation and support of the system through its existing channels.
