Bron has launched FaceScan, a biometric recovery option that lets users of its self-custody digital asset platform regain access after losing their passkeys or devices. The feature uses iProov’s Dynamic Liveness technology to check that the person requesting recovery is present and matches the person who enrolled.
FaceScan is available globally across supported devices and operating systems, although setup compatibility depends on the browser or device. It sits alongside Bron’s Guardian recovery option, in which two trusted contacts help confirm the user’s identity. Customers can configure either method or both, then choose a recovery route when needed.
The feature is used for recovery rather than routine sign-in. Bron founder Dmitry Tokarev said users can establish that they are the account owner without supplying an identity document or seed phrase, and without Bron taking custody of their assets. Self-custody means the user retains direct control of those assets rather than handing that control to a provider.
During enrollment, changing colors on the device screen illuminate the user’s face as part of the liveness check. iProov stores an encrypted biometric template for later matching, while Bron retains a reference to the enrollment. Bron says it does not keep a photograph or video of the face.
A new FaceScan enrollment must pass a 30-day security delay before it can be used for recovery. Replacing an enrollment starts that delay again. The delay stops someone who briefly gains access to an account from immediately using a newly added face to recover it.
After a successful lost-passkey check, the user creates a new passkey. Accounts with a workspace that has moved at least $100 face a further two-day delay; other accounts regain access immediately. The delay becomes seven days if configured two-factor authentication cannot be confirmed. Recovery of signing access on a trusted device has a separate 48-hour delay.
Biometrics also protect everyday access to other self-custody products. IOTRUST’s second-generation D’CENT hardware wallet uses on-device fingerprint matching. FaceScan instead supplies a recovery route when existing credentials or devices are unavailable.
iProov has separately introduced identity checks for video meetings, including remote account-recovery interactions. Bron users can remove their FaceScan enrollment in account settings, which deletes it and disables that recovery option until a new enrollment is completed.
