Bosma Announces Indiegogo Campaign for New Smart Door Lock

The smart home specialist Bosma is bringing a new door lock to Indiegogo. The device has been dubbed the Aegis, and it is intended to replace the interior deadbolt mechanism on someone’s door.

The Aegis has a slew of features that have become fairly standard in smart door locks. The lock will send a notification if the door has been left ajar, and has an LED display to let owners know that the door is closed. It can be locked or unlocked remotely using the Bosma App, and can also be locked and unlocked automatically thanks to its Bluetooth capabilities. The Bosma App is available for iOS and Android devices through their respective stores.

The Aegis runs on four AA batteries, which are housed beneath a magnetic cover. According to Bosma, the entire installation process should take less than 15 minutes.

Since the Aegis only replaces the interior deadbolt mechanism, Aegis owners will still be able to use their existing key to unlock their door. The device has anti-lock pick detection to thwart anyone who tries to take advantage of that to gain access without a proper key. 

The Aegis was designed in collaboration with Ink Studios. It can be paired with Bosma’s Sentry Doorbell, which includes a fingerprint scanner that enables biometric authentication.

Bosma’s Indiegogo campaign will begin on June 16. Backers can purchase the Aegis alone for $119.99, or buy it bundled with the Sentry Doorbell for $249.99. Bosma has already wrapped a successful crowdfunding campaign for the Sentry Doorbell.

The Aegis is one of several smart door locks that has cropped up in the past few months. U-tec unveiled its Ultraloq Lever back in January, while Bird Home Automation recently integrated an ekey reader to enable fingerprint authentication for its DoorBird access control system. FPC has also placed one of its fingerprint modules in a biometric door lock developed by Fueb Labs.
