Biometrics Specialist Aware, Inc. Appoints New CFO

Biometric software and services provider Aware, Inc. has announced the appointment of David Barcelo as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective immediately.

The hiring of Mr. Barcelo comes just over a month after former CFO David J. Martin announced his intention to retire from the position at the end of March of this year, though it was reported at the time that Mr. Martin was to stay with Aware in an advisor role in order to assist with the hiring of his replacement.

“We’re pleased to name Dave as the Chief Financial Officer of Aware,” said Aware CEO and President Bob Eckel. “Dave has over 14 years of extensive financial and operational experience in the identity solutions industry.”

His new position at Aware will see Mr. Barcelo responsible for finance, accounting, legal and overall business operations. As a senior member of the executive team he will report directly to the CEO.

Before his appointment as CFO by Aware, Mr. Barcelo — who received his MBA and MIS degrees from Boston University before getting his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Yale — was the Vice President of Strategic Marketing for security and identity solutions company IDEMIA (formerly known as Morpho) from November 2017 to May 2020. Prior to that he served as the Vice President of Business Operations for MorphoTrust USA from 2011 to 2017, and as Corporate Director of Financial Planning and Strategic Operations of L-1 Identity Solutions from 2006 to 2011.

“I have worked directly with Dave in the past and I am confident in his ability to lead Aware’s finance and operations organization and implement and execute on our strategic goals,” said Eckel.

Mr. Barcelo commented that he is excited to be joining Aware, going on to say, “I know that Aware has a great reputation for developing industry-leading biometric solutions with an impressive roster of customer accounts, [and] I look forward to working together with the team to help Aware solidify its position in the industry as a leading provider of biometric software solutions.”

In addition to the hiring of Mr. Barcelo, Aware has also announced that David Traverse has been hired to serve as Controller, a role he effectively began on April 27, 2020.

“I am also pleased to have David Traverse join as Controller and utilize his many years of financial reporting and operations experience to augment Aware’s finance organization,” commented Eckel.
