“The chain itself will also benefit from VSBLTY’s computer vision and consumer analytics technology.”
VSBLTY is continuing to make in-roads in South Africa. The company has announced that it will be providing smart retail technology for a chain of fuel and convenience stores with locations all over the country.
The deal specifically concerns VSBLTY’s VisionCaptor and DataCaptor software, which will be installed in more than 300 individual locations beginning in October. Each of those locations will have three digital displays with interactive features to drive customer engagement. The chain itself will also benefit from VSBLTY’s computer vision and consumer analytics technology.
The contract was achieved in collaboration with Onyx-Cognivas, which acts as VSBLTY’s partner in South Africa. The two companies have previously worked together to build smart city infrastructure in the affluent Johannesburg suburb of Sandton.
“Progressive retailers are increasingly recognizing the value of monetizing their stores in a model where brands can purchase space as media,” said VSBLTY CEO Jay Hutton. “Interactive ad messages are now reaching, influencing and measuring consumers right at the point of sale where we are seeing major increases in conversion and ROI on these programs.”
“This marks an important milestone in how the retailer of the future is adopting, not only digital activation for enhanced customer engagement, but also the utilization of computer vision to provide validation and verification for media partners,” said Onyx-Cognivas Co-founder Andrew Coudounaris.
The news comes mere days after VSBLTY secured a similar smart retail partnership with a chain of pet stores in Mexico. That contract involves digital shelf strips and interactive surfaces in addition to real-time customer analytics.
VSBLTY has steadily worked to expand its profile in both the smart city and smart retail spaces in the past few months. The computer vision specialist teamed up with UST Global in an effort to reach international retailers, and later allied with Vancouver’s Teralight to explore potential smart city applications.
