The border control and digital identity specialist Vision-Box has opened a new manufacturing facility in Abóboda, Portugal. With 8,000 square feet of warehouse and factory space, the new one-floor facility immediately becomes Vision-Box’s largest production center and will allow the company to triple its manufacturing capacity.
“The Abóboda factory and warehouse facility serves the company’s growth by offering large-scale modern manufacturing, coherent with the increasing global demand for Seamless Travel solutions and advanced ergonomics hardware,” said Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann.
Vision-Box is best known for providing end-to-end passenger processing solutions that leverage biometric identification technology to make air travel less of a hassle. The company’s technology has been deployed at more than 80 international airports, including LAX in Los Angeles, where Vision-Box’s partners include Norwegian Air, British Airways, and Lufthansa. Vision-Box has also introduced biometric technology at airports in Amsterdam, Bengaluru, and Bahrain over the course of the past year.
According to Vision-Box, the Abóboda facility will fuel the company’s expansion efforts and help it meet the growing demand for better screening tech. A recent SITA report indicated that airports and airlines spent $50 billion on IT in 2018, with much of that money going towards biometric tech that will automate the passenger experience. SITA also notes that air traffic is expected to double over the next twenty years.
