U-tec Unveils Biometric Smart Door Lock and Handle

U-tec is launching a new biometric smart lock designed primarily for garage doors, office doors, and any other single-hole door without a deadbolt. The Ultraloq Lever can be opened with a fingerprint scan or a PIN code, or remotely through a Bridge Wi-Fi adapter. 

In terms of design, the Ultraloq Lever is essentially a handle attached to a keypad and a fingerprint scanner. The lock is installed like any other handle or doorknob, and should fit any standard US door without the need for any additional wires or drilling.

Key features include a fingerprint scanner and an anti-peep touchscreen that allows the user to add extra digits to trick anyone who might be watching while entering the code. The entry code (or an eKey) can be shared with friends and family members who need to gain access to the house. Those codes can be permanent, or they can be set to function only on certain days or during specific hours. The Ultraloq Lever can also be programmed to lock itself automatically after the door has been closed for a certain amount of time.

Finally, the Bridge Wi-Fi adapter allows users to leverage a smartphone app to control the lock and grant access to anyone remotely. The app will send the owner a notification whenever someone opens the lock. The Bluetooth-enabled lock is compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT, and Apple Watch.

The Ultraloq Lever comes with a backup mechanical key and offers 128-bit AES encryption and Dynamic Key security. It is currently available for pre-order through Indiegogo, and is expected to ship sometime this month with an early bird price of $119 (or $149 with the Bridge adapter).

According to a recent report from Parks Associates, the majority of smart lock owners are now installing their locks themselves, and the Ultraloq Lever could be appealing to those DIY enthusiasts. The Lever is not the only smart lock on the market, with Kwikset having unveiled its new Halo Touch lock at CES 2020.
