IDnow has added eID services to its portfolio through a new partnership with AUTHADA, a German startup that specializes in eID technology. AUTHADA’s solution allows clients to use a standard NFC-enabled smartphone to scan and verify a modern German ID card (issued since November 2010) once that card’s online ID features have been activated.
The joint solution will be billed as IDnow eID, and it is being marketed to businesses that are looking to improve customer conversion rates while remaining compliant with the latest regulatory standards. AUTHADA’s eID tech will theoretically eliminate the need for a dedicated card reader, and meets the requirements for the AMLA (Anti-Money Laundering Act) and the eIDAS Signature Ordinance for Qualified Electronic Signatures.
IDnow eID will be offered alongside IDnow’s existing video identification solution and the selfie-based AutoIdent authentication platform.
“With our new eID service, we are enabling our users to choose and switch between different identification methods on the IDnow platform,” said IDnow Co-Founder Sebastian Bärhold.
“This will enable a simpler and accelerated implementation of our solutions,” added AUTHADA CEO and Co-Founder Andreas Plies. “At the same time, our customers are able to offer their users a choice – identification via video or using the eID service.”
IDnow and AUTHADA plan to launch the new eID service in the first quarter of 2020, roughly a year after the debut of the AutoIdent platform. IDnow developed AutoIdent in collaboration with DERMALOG. Lottoland has since deployed the solution to onboard new customers and ensure that those customers are legally old enough to enjoy its online gaming services.
IDnow has since gone on to become one of the newest members of the FIDO Alliance, officially joining the organization back in September. The company previously upgraded its facial recognition and document reading capabilities in September of 2018.
