Stan Swearingen is stepping down from his position as the CEO of IDEX Biometrics. His replacement is Vince Graziani, who is joining the company following a stint as the Vice President of Strategy Development and Implementation for Infineon Technologies.
Though he will no longer act as CEO, Swearingen will maintain a leadership position with the company. He recommended the executive shakeup as IDEX transitions from new product development to full commercial operations. Graziani will consequently focus on sales growth and core management while Swearingen turns his attention to corporate strategy and advanced technology.
Graziani previously served as the CEO of Sand 9 Inc., Vbrick Systems, and Sandburst Inc., and helped guide each one from the startup phase all the way through to revenue and scale. His appointment as CEO will be effective as of February 27.
“During Stan’s two years as CEO, he has transformed IDEX from an IP organization into a product company well positioned for success in the biometric smart card market,” said IDEX Chairman Morten Opstad.
“I have joined IDEX because of the strength of the team, the unique technology, and the significant opportunity I see for IDEX in the market, and, I look forward to leading IDEX into its next phase of sales growth,” added Graziani.
IDEX has solidified its position in the smart card market during Swearingen’s tenure as CEO. The company has placed fingerprint sensors in smart cards from companies like Quest and DongWoon, and licensed its patented enrollment system to providers like Chutian Dragon and IDEMIA. The company has since launched a new TrustedBio line of products and achieved EMVCo certification.
In the meantime, IDEX is not the only biometrics company making some changes at the executive level. ImageWare recently announced that Kristin Taylor is taking over from Jim Miller as the company’s new CEO.
